JBridge

JBridge: making J2EE approachable

Services

I offer a range of services for companies planning projects using J2EE or other Java-related technology.

Training

I run two courses:
Java Programming - for those new to the Java Programming language.
Java Web Programming - covering most aspects of J2EE web applications (servlets, JSPs, application servers)

  • Both cover syllabus requirements for Sun Java Certification exams;
  • can be run at your company site;
  • and can be tailored to suit particular requirements.

Mentoring

I can work alongside developers on a project to transfer skills as a coach and mentor. I particularly enjoy taking developers from a procedural background into the object-oriented world, and can offer a pragmatic and non-threatening approach (you don't have to forget everything you already know).

Consultancy

In general, I can lead you to appropriate software and hardware architecture choices. I also offer specialised help in the area of WebSphere Application Server, especially on the iSeries platform.

Project Management

I can help not only with the management of your Java-related projects, but also define and establish an appropriate development process.

About Me

I have fifteen years of experience in the application development side of IT. This has spanned a wide range of tools and techniques. In the last five years, I have specialised in Java, and hold qualifications as a Sun Certified Java Programmer and Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD). Read more about me - in brief, or in detail (full CV).

I am also the author of an SCWCD study guide.

Question of the Day

Try a J2EE question, of the sort you might encounter in the Sun Java Web Component Certification exam.

Course Back Up Material

I instruct a course for IBM on WebSphere Application Server for the iSeries (AS14GB). I maintain a page on this web site dedicated to resources which may prove useful in connection with the course.

Open Source Java Frameworks

If you want an infrastructure for building a JSP application over a relational database, I would recommend the popular Expresso framework from JCorporate. I have some opinions and resources of my own concerning Expresso.

If music is your passion, consider joining the xemo project. The project ambition is to build a fully-fledged music notation editor, using the freely available MusicXML format.

Usability

Those of you who know Jakob Nielsen's work will see that my site design is a thinly veiled homage. Check out his wonderfully organized opinions on how to (and how not to) build a usable website.

Ian Graham has developed a thought-provoking website (with accompanying book) outlining patterns in web usability (or WU as he abbreviates).

The Oracle

For the the best and most thoughtful debate on extreme programming and so much more, visit the Portland Patterns site (AKA the Wiki Wiki Web). You may never feel the same way about application development again.
